Guest guest
: I can certainly emphathize. It probably won't take more than three days for the hungries to go away. When I am coming off a carb monster episode, I have found that I can shorten the time of the agony by being very radical about carbs. I cut out everything even remotely resembling a carb, forget about whether it's a bad or good carb. I have also been known to drink protein shakes every hour, just to try to fill myself up. It also helps me if I keep very, very busy. Too much free time can be trouble. Best wishes (I almost said good luck, but this stuff has nothing to do with luck). BarbaraJean Re: Have to pass this on... Gee, as I sit here writing this, my stomach is rumbling and it isn't from gastric juices - I'm really hungry! Today is day one of trying to limit the bad carbs and drink more shakes & I'm hungry! Did I mention that I'm hungry? I talked to the folks in the program about it and they say it is another way things can happen so not to worry. The hormones that tell the brain to eat are no longer produced after WLS. So mostly what we teach ourselves is to eat on a schedule again psychologically not physically. If I do not eat by the clock then I can get off center pretty fast and pass out if I miss too many meals. " > > > EXCUSE ME? The hormones that cause hunger are no longer produced? Guest guest
There have been a couple reports on tv about ghrelin, which our bodies produce when we're not eating enuf. Apparently left over from the caveman days when it was either " feast or famine. " Researchers believe that this hormone may be the reason why people who lose weight have such a hard time keeping it off: the reduced food consumption kicks in the ghrelin, which stimulates appetite, and causes one to be hungry, crave more, eat more, and ultimately gain back whatever was lost. Sound like a familiar syndrome? The studies that show ghrelin is reduced or non-existant after WLS were all based on fairly recent post-ops, and I'm wondering if this stuff STAYS gone, or if, like our intestines that want to grow longer to " compensate " the hormone returns after a longer time........... Guest guest
it's kind of true......they discovered we don't produce as much " ghrelin. Guest guest
Well, the study that the patient quoted said they followed the bypass patients for 6 months -- I'd say it's very likely that at some point we start producing it again.
