Guest guest
Thanks, Dan, My question was rhetorical--joke-making. Sort'a like, " So where can I find these babes? " But, thanks for answering so politely. I go to a county recreation center (closed now because of the snow we had over the weekend) not too far from home in the DC suburbs. It is replete with all manner of Cybex machines that are networked into a Fitlinxx system that can even be accessed from the Internet. Being a " senior, " I have an entire year's access to this for $308. There is also a HUGE swimming pool, indoor handball courts, etc. We take Tai Chi lessons there on Saturdays. But, back to the " babes. " With one or two notable exceptions, most of the people that I meet at the gym are, like me, over-the-hill wannabes at fitness. That includes at least one aged-beyond-perfection male " prancer " who still manages to strut his stuff. Maybe one of these days, we'll be treated to seeing him to topple off a stationary bike or taking a pratfall off a treadmill--or, maybe being launched into mini-orbit from an elliptical stepper. I agree with the benefits of exercise. I have been exercising all along, even in MO days, though at a home gym that has only a basic universal weight machine and a stationary bike. After having lost a good deal of weight, I could not do even one pushup; ab's so shot from carrying around my belly that I could not do a situp. Now, I can just about make eight pushups and several semi-situps. That's since December. Also, though I have not lost more weight, some of my clothes actually seem looser. I find now that I carry myself much better and feel much more at ease gliding through the world, and I look forward to being able to practice Tai Chi well enough to keep my muscles lithe as I age further. Guest guest
<G>Well Steve....I didn't know you were looking for a spot to scope out the babes. That would be two blocks over to the East at Hooters!!<G> Oh yeah...there are those guys that I had to put up with that would inhabit the old fitness center; they'd show up and spend all morning making the rounds and taking up perfectly good oxygen. That's what I've really come to enjoy about the new spot....it's quiet; it's not a hang-out for the social set; all the same equipment but always available...which is really important because I'm all for getting in my time on the treadmill first and then the balance into the weight room. Hopefully I can stagger out within 90 minutes after sauntering in.<G> Those push-ups are really important on the days off from the gym as well as later into the day after a workout....but I know by experience, if you stop the push-ups for any length of time you'll have to build back the numbers. But there's nothing like hitting the deck and doing 20 or 30 hard earned push-ups and leaving the younger-more svelte crowd falling into a pile after the first 5.<G> Those push-ups can be your badge of honor and most certainly be pretty impressive with the upper body, shoulder and back strength. Keep up the good work!! Yeah...I lost my abs years ago and still haven't found 'em.<G> I know they're there someplace! Dan rny10.13.98 EdWaits,MD-Atlanta RE: To Dan--Soooo...I go to this new gym..... Guest guest
Ya' know until I read Dan's post I really never thought about the guys whole issues at gyms. My gym has the regular co-ed floor but has a separate side just for the women and it has co-ed classes and classes just for the women -- it never occurred to me that this was odd... I go to this gym because it has Just Women space so I don't have to mingle with men (sorry, nothing personal, I like men, even married one but I don't want them around when I'm working out.) I just never thought that men would feel the same way about it (sexist thoughts huh?) Sorry guys... unless we're told (like Dan shared) like y'all we may not have a " clue " that you all have the same needs -- I can see where guys would like a " just men's " side of the gym too (now...) so thank you for sharing about that Dan. I think I just assumed that since their wasn't one their was no need for one -- now I can clearly see that many men may prefer a " just men " type of gym. I know myself, I wouldn't go if I didn't have the " just women " and the truly " just women " local " curves " is a long series of cat fights even without the men to impress... (I know not all locations are like that... but, ours is) In the " just women " side of the gym no one talks to me, bothers me or looks at me and I don't look at them... it is my " alone " time and my " de-stress " time and my time to NOT have to interact with other people. Sorry all that happened to you Dan ... I've heard those types of stories before but none so good as the way you told yours. ~smile~ it was funny even though I know you were seriously upset by all that. Glad you found a quiet place to go. hugz, ~denise )ô(
