Guest guest
hi... I recall some talk about mths after surg this hightened tooth/gum sensitivity. I am sooo there and didn't realize it. I have been using the extra strength mouth wash watered down from the OS to water pick and then dip my brush in and brush... however, I picked up the toothpaste the otehr day and when the mint hit my teeth/gums it was like someone took dry ice to them- OOOOOOOOOOOOOOUCH! so I rinsed as quick as I could and the severe pain stopped, then next time I tried sensidone or waht not...SAME THING! so back to mouth wash only to brush with but I wondered, how long does this last and why does this happen? (ouch) Please share some scoop with me...thanks, JO

Guest guest
Jo, I'm having the same trouble. I hope someone answers that had this problem and can tell me it went away. Also, the feeling is coming back in my lower lip and chin and it feels like its full of sand and needles. Do you know how long this lasts? It has been going on for a couple of weeks. Guest guest
Hay Pam, Yes the pinches and tingles went on for a while with me...in all from about wk 2----wk 6/7.....I started getting feeling back rather early and now only feel a slight tingle when I touch my left upper lip...everything else is back!! but the weird feelings I get on my upper palet and gums makes me think they're still working their way back some...feels like -well, can't really figure how to describe...like the after effects from burnt pizza mouth or hot hot tea...and I especially feel it whwn I breath in and air swooshes past...going to talk about this tomorrow when I have my check up... but the sensitivity is intense and not pleasant... so any advice from those who have been there done that is helpful! Thanks JO > > > > hi... > > I recall some talk about mths after surg this hightened tooth/gum > > sensitivity. > > I am sooo there and didn't realize it. > > > > I have been using the extra strength mouth wash watered down from > the > > OS to water pick and then dip my brush in and brush... > > however, I picked up the toothpaste the otehr day and when the > mint > > hit my teeth/gums it was like someone took dry ice to them- > > OOOOOOOOOOOOOOUCH! > > so I rinsed as quick as I could and the severe pain stopped, then > > next time I tried sensidone or waht not...SAME THING! > > > > > > so back to mouth wash only to brush with but I wondered, how long > > does this last and why does this happen? > > (ouch) > > > > Please share some scoop with me...thanks, JO

Guest guest
Me too! I had lower jaw surgery (vertical ramus osteotomy) on July 15th and I am still having tooth sensitivity on one tooth in my lower jaw. It started about 5 weeks post op and was INTENSE! I saw the oral surgeon and he said he didn't see any problem but at that point I was still wired shut so he couldn't do anything. As soon as 6 weeks came around and I was unwired I saw the dentist and he put some desensitizing gel on my teeth and this was repeated 2 more times and that helped a little. Basically, it has just taken time. I still have a little bit of sensitivity with one tooth. I saw my dentist 2 weeks ago and he checked no cavity no nothing. The verdict: loose tooth ligaments from the surgery and the tooth is taking time to re-grow the bone now that the tooth has been moved. The good news is that my sensitivity has decreased tons and is now only a minor annoyance, still, something I hope will disappear totally in the months ahead. I hope this helps. Guest guest
IT SO DOES! Thank you Helen... I was beginning to deal with it and just ride this out. I went to the OS thurs and he said I recovered my feeling So quickly but I could not have possibly had all of my pallet back yet-even if I thought it may have been...and that it was regeneration...interesting about the bone ligaments...very. so thanks...I see now that it comes and goes-no reason given, and takes turns with my one area that still plays numb-weird sometimes, feels swollen but isn't...and that's the apple of my left cheek onto the upper left lip area...but for 3 mths post-op-----no complaining I just need to know what's going on and then take a deep breath and wait for it to pass-safely thanks Helen!! jo > > > > hi... > > I recall some talk about mths after surg this hightened tooth/gum > > sensitivity. > > I am sooo there and didn't realize it. > > > > I have been using the extra strength mouth wash watered down from > the > > OS to water pick and then dip my brush in and brush... > > however, I picked up the toothpaste the otehr day and when the mint > > hit my teeth/gums it was like someone took dry ice to them- > > OOOOOOOOOOOOOOUCH! > > so I rinsed as quick as I could and the severe pain stopped, then > > next time I tried sensidone or waht not...SAME THING! > > > > > > so back to mouth wash only to brush with but I wondered, how long > > does this last and why does this happen? > > (ouch) > > > > Please share some scoop with me...thanks, JO
