Guest guest
Hi all... unfortunately yesterday I saw a military spokesperson requesting that no unsolicited mail, care packages or donations be sent to the troops. I forget exactly why, but they said while it is definitely appreciated, they can't accommodate letters being sent to service-people without specific direction. Its a shame though, because I was in college during the last Gulf War and we had a major drive to do this exactly this and the people we wrote letters to loved our efforts (we got loads of responses and corresponded with many of the troops). - > > Subject: PLEASE HELP--Supporting our Troops One Letter at a Time

Guest guest
I had heard something similar. However, the site that the original email was referring to gives you a specific person with a specific address who is wanting mail. So, it is definitely solicited mail (asked for) with specific directions (address). Is the military spokes person saying that this is also unacceptable? How do family members get things to their loved ones if this is unacceptable? Not a personal attack, I am just curious since I already have an address of a soldier. Guest guest
No, from what I understood the only post they are requesting not be sent is technically unaddressed (i.e., -any non-specific soldier), rather than just unsolicited mail. The message actually sent " unsolicited " - but you're right, there would be no way of differentiating what's unsolicited as long as you had the name of the soldier. So, I'm sure anything that's addressed properly will get through (I hope!!). And the website seems to be overloaded with requests, because they aren't taking any more volunteers right now. -- loriowen@... wrote: > I had heard something similar. Guest guest
Hi, I would suggest contacting your local VFW if you feel inclined to do something. They have a program called Project Uplink which supplies phone cards to the personnel overseas. Donations are sorely needed.'
