Guest guest
Carol, Something to think about ..... When was the last time you did mention to your pcp you were dieting or was your pcp aware of you dieting in the last year? This is the ticket if it has been observed as in some cases, it is a medically supervised diet. If nothing else, the last time you met with your pcp could be a date where you were first put on your medically supervised diet also. So just visit your pcp again soon and make sure that you are on one now and good luck to you. Just keep trying. Bummer Denied Again Hi all! My ins (Cigna HMO) just denied my first level appeal! I guess I'm not completely surprised, but I sure am bummed! The reason, the 6 month physician supervised diet. Aside from that, I qualify hands-down. Anyone in here had to appeal more than once? I don't post often but I'd love some moral support and a big family hug! Congratulations to all the losers, you are all doing so great! Take care everyone, Carol in Miami _____

Guest guest
Carol, I'm not sure I understand. Have you had a 6-month physician supervised diet? That was my requirement too, and couldn't even get approval for a consultation with the surgeon until that was completed, and when I got approval for the consultation, it was another 3 months to get on the surgeon's schedule. The prep time leading up to this surgery is very difficult. When I made the decision to do this, I wanted it done, but that's not the way the insurance companies do it. I do send a great big hug, and best wishes. Keep us posted. Joan LAP RNY 11/18/03 Dr. Higa, Fresno, CA 282pre-op/275surg/236/140 Bummer Denied Again Hi all! Guest guest
Thanks Joan, I just asked my PCP last April for a referral to a bariatric surgeon, he was thrilled that I wanted to have a gastric bypass. Cigna lets you go to the surgeon, even approved all the consults, pulmonary, cardiology, (which lead to a very expensive cardiac cath), psychologist, everything, then you find out about the 6 month diet requirement! I think they should have you complete the 6 month diet first, they would save money that way, and you wouldn't waste time! I am going to see my PCP this week and see how close I am to finishing it. I feel in my soul this is the right thing, I guess I just have to be patient. Thanks so much for the hug! Carol > Carol, I'm not sure I understand. Have you had a 6-month physician > supervised diet? Guest guest
(((carol))) ins comps are a piece of work. an acquaintance had to switch comps after exhausting her appeals w/ cigna. she even sent MRI's of her knees--u name it. back in early 2002, i was approved in 10 calendar days, no supervised diets. both my personal & my PCP's letter rattled off a billion diets & gyms i had tried since the age of 14. can u network w/ other wls folks? there's like a dozen support groups in south fl. i can tell that you're not giving up---so regroup & keep any & all resources close. feel free to email me, too. lori h. > Hi all!
