Guest guest
The only voice change that I noticed in myself was primarily that I didn't " whistle " so much on certain letters. It wasn't anything major to begin with, but I found that certain words were easier to pronounce once the wires came off, and my jaw had been exercised for a while. If anything you'll notice an improvement, but as to the actual quality of your voice not enough will have changed to make any sort of a difference. rse@... http://www.rseanes.com/ortho > i'm concerned about possible voice changes with my upper/lower/genio > surgery. i really want to do it but i'm scared of any voice changes. > please let me know about any voice changes anyone has had. thank you. > alex

Guest guest
Hi : I wanted to give you and others an update on my voice. If you recall, I have a problem with the nasal resonance of my voice after I had upper and lower done last November. I also had a severely deviated septum along with a septal hole caused from the procedure. In May, I went to an ENT to correct the deviation. He explained that the hole was causing a resonance problem with my voice, so he also repaired this hole. Since then it has re-opened and he wants to try again later this year to fix it. Today, I went to another ENT who said that he did not think the hole was causing this problem. To be sure, he is going to place a plastic septal button in the hole and see if it helps before I go for another surgery. This second ENT explained that maxillary surgery can change the resonance of a person's voice. I am baffled why it has affected mine in such a negative way. Others on this post have mentioned changes, but they have been positive ones. I am hoping the button will at least help or that after my sinuses settle down from these surgeries will allow it to return to normal. Please let me know if you get other feedback. Thanks Mark > i'm concerned about possible voice changes with my upper/lower/genio > surgery. i really want to do it but i'm scared of any voice changes. > please let me know about any voice changes anyone has had. thank you. > alex

Guest guest
Hi : I'm not sure what defines maxillary surgery, but I think the upper jaw surgery also known as the LeForte procedure is what can change your voice resonance because it affects the chambers of the sinuses which contribute to a persons distinct voice sound. No, I didn't have a cleft palate, my voice was perfect before. I only had the upper jaw surgery to level off my bite. I had a choice to just have my lower advanced and I wish I had stuck to that had I known about the voice changes. I would not have minded if my voice had changed, but surely not to a nasally sounding one. I wish I could provide better input. My situation may be very unusual and hope it doesn't scare you or send you down the wrong path. On a brighter note, It did improve my smile, bite and apperance overall. I will try to get the before and after pics scanned and get them up here later this week. Thanks for your input as well.
