Guest guest
Good Morning! I am going to let you in on what happened to me once I stopped the Flintstones... About a month ago I figured that -- at 2.5 years post op from a proximal lap RNY -- I was finally grown up enough to switch to One-A-Days for women. Up until then I had been taking 2 Flintstones a day (1 a.m. and 1 p.m.) along with my 3 TUMS. All of my labs have always been perfect with this regiment, so why I decided to switch is beyond me. Anyway, about 10 days ago I got extremely fatigued. It had been a busy day, so nothing alarmed me. But the fatigue did not go away. So, I figured I had caught a mild virus. But when 10 days went by and I was no better, I called my doctor and went to my pharmacist. (I wanted 2 different opinions...) They asked what I was doing different and I explained about the vitamins. They both (independently) told me that with the chewable vitamins that I was absorbing far more nutrients than I was with the vitamins that I simply swallowed. I immediately went out and bought some more Flintstones and began that day taking 3 a day! In about a week I will cut back to the routine of 2x a day, but for now I want to get build back up my system as best I can. Boy, was I stupid. You know the old saying, if it isn't broke, do not fix it... well, I learned my lesson the hard way. In addition to the Flintstones and TUMS, I take an iron supplement and a Vit. E supplement. If you are not taking iron right now, you may want to consider adding it to your regiment. It will help eliminate your anemia. And if you are only taking one Flintstone a day, you may want to increase it to two. (That which is not used is flushed out of your system...) You did not say who your surgeon was... Mine was Dr. Champion in Atlanta. Surgery was October 2000 and I have lost 170 pounds. Went from a 26/28 to a 4/6 petite. I'd love to hear back from you. Take care and write soon... Guest guest
Deb, I read this with great interest. I just switched to the " Atkins " vitamins.... don't ask me why, but I had read in his book about the supplements that will help you lose more weight. Yes, I got hooked in again. The things is, I've been wondering if I was absorbing them. I'm sure I must absorb some of them, but your post made me really rethink things. Thank you. This topic was very timely for me. Guest guest
Sunstar, First of all I had the vbg so I don't really have any malabsorption problems. I used the flinstones for about 6 months. I am now using a multivitamin that is doing fine on my labs. The only thing to consider is that where one works for me, someone who has had a bypass might need two. I also take a calcium citrate supplement. You can find both of these at a store. I also know that Centrum makes a chewable multivitamin that may work. Unfortunately, it may mean experimenting. It seems the flinstones are not working for you. Lori Owen - Denton, Texas CHF 4/14/01 479 lbs. SRVG 7/16/01 401 lbs.
