Guest guest
haha...mr. sandman is definitely avoiding me still. it will be 2 weeks on wednesday since my surgery. i'm going to discuss the insomnia thing with my dr. tomorrow as well. i tried taking another valium last night even though it made me extremely jittery and sweat like crazy last time...and yeah...same results...not fun :-P but if it weren't for the insomnia and this pain from the splint...i'd be doing pretty good. i mean the swelling in the left side of my face has almost diminished. i never had any bruising. and i think the swelling on the right side of my face is mostly from the splint. and i also have some swelling on either sides of my nose...sinus area...from the turbinectomies that i had done. so i'm gonna see what my options are about getting this splint out ASAP. and who knows...maybe the splint is part of my problem trying to sleep. Thanks for the concern. Guest guest
The turbinates (I think that's the right name) are little chambers in the nose and/or sinuses that can get clogged, big-time. If they sort of get the roto-rooter treatment, it can make an amazing dif for folks who have been clogged up there all their lives. As I have, I suspect. I have never been able to smell anything (including paper mill breezes and the day after Mardi Gras, which I count among my blessings; and burning pans of bacon or escaping gas -- as in explosive stuff -- which I count among my disabilities). When the docs are doing upper surgery anyhow, it can make a huge difference to have the turbinates cleaned out. And Benadryl, for those who can do it, is apparently very effective for sleepy times. But ask your doc, first. Guest guest
the turbinates are responsible for moistening the air as it passes through the nose. they can become permanently enlarged and block breathing. they can be shrunken with plasma or rf or sugically reduced. all generally with local anesthesia. on my list of things to do. http://www.entnet.org/healthinfo/sinus/sinus_reduction.cfm > > > > question...did anyone have any problems with their splint? > mine > > > > didn't really bother me until last thursday. i mean it was a > bit > > > > annoying...but since thursday...on the right side it's been > > digging > > > > into the back of my mouth and digging into my gums. it's quite > > > > painful...and the pain meds don't even take away all the pain. > > and > > > i > > > > felt that the pain was bad enough to try to move my appointment > > > with > > > > my OS from tomorrow to today...but they didn't seem to think it > > was > > > > high priority. has anyone else had pain associated with their > > > > splint. i'm wondering if maybe it's just something everyone > has > > to > > > > deal with. > > > > Thanks! > > > > > > > > Tom
