Guest guest
Yes, I do believe not being able to close my lips was of the most irritating parts of the recovery process. The drooling is very humbling indeed. I had more than average swelling and I couldn't comfortably close my lips for at least two weeks. I think the swelling has alot to do with the open lips problem. I'm afraid this isn't going to be a very useful email as I can't offer any suggestions about how to increase lip mobility. I think time is the best antedote. I am now almost 6 weeks post op and can close my lips with ease. I think things were much better by the 3rd week. However my lips still feel a bit stiff and hard to move. So much so that I can't wrap them around a bottle very well and I still dribble. I drink everything except water through a straw. Sorry I can't offer more help, just empathy. > Hi all. Guest guest
Thanks for the reply. I was told most of the swelling would be gone 2 weeks post op. HA! I too had more than average swelling. I have most of my feeling back (which is a blessing) but the swelling is driving me nuts. Me and my youngest daughter (5 months) drool together with our burping rag. Your right, drooling is quite humbling. My other 3 children were very afraid of me (5, 4, and 2 1/2 years) until around 5 days ago. Was it just recently that you are able to suck through a straw without it going all over the place? Your email was a big help. I felt like I was all alone over here and it helps to talk with people that have had similar experiences. Tammy > > Hi all. Guest guest
Good luck with the dribbling, I know how you feel. the first week after surgery I had to always be on guard for the stray hanger. Fortunately things are now better for me. One note, my OS said to not use straws or blow my nose for 6 weeks, but it seems many people on this forum use straws. Arde > > > Hi all.
