Guest guest
Hi gang! I have some updates about the homemade makeup. For a few weeks using the pure glycerin mixed with the powder was great, but then I got a little acne so I am concerned about comedogenicity. Also, it dawned on me that pure glycerin on the face may not be the correct PH. If it's not, it can damage the facial acid mantle. Also, glycerin by itself is sweet and I wonder how the bacteria on my face likes that Anyone have experience using just glycerin as a moisturizer? So, I decided to go just powder. I know this is a four letter word to some, but I discovered that TALC is awesome. I made my powder talc based. I am not sure if it's important to ph balance powder since it just sits on the face, but it has been a few weeks and no problem - it's very nice to just put on powder. I then decided, however, that the powder did not give me as much coverage as I like. I decided that formulating a non-comedogenic, ph balanced lotion would be too time consuming and risky on my rosacea/acne prone face, so I just began mixing my powder with La Roche-Posay Toleraine facial cream (non-comedogenic and ph balanced, also recommended by Dr. Nase). And, that's where I am right now. I may go back to glycerin since I'm not sure if that caused any problems, but I'm doing good right now with the Toleraine and my powder. I must say I learned a lot and definately learned to appreciate the necessity of different ingredients. For example, just because a lotion has citric acid or ascorbic acid in it does not mean it is acidic. Those are only added to adjust the overall ph to what the face needs Patty
