There are a number of gadgets they can use, from " closing loops " to springs and elastics to do so. Cammie > Hey everyone, > I'm just starting this process. Guest guest
Thanks for the response. I hope he can close it fairly quickly. I feel like a wicked witch right now. (Sorry for the whining. I guess I'm overly self critical) > > Hey everyone, > > I'm just starting this process. Guest guest
Folks often get self-conscious about such things, and I think it's understandable. But really, as soon as you get the hardware installed, it will be pretty apparent to everyone that you're a work in progress, anyhow. And probably the gap isn't as noticeable as you think. Lots of times when people have a palatal expansion, they wind up with a space of one or two teeth, right up front in the middle. It really bothers some people -- but they usually are amazed at how quickly it closes up, once the ortho decides they're ready to close it. Be of good cheer. You'll make it through... Guest guest
Hey, Kiya! Yeah, it's hard losing the perfectly healthy teeth...I had two good ones removed when they took out my wisdom teeth to even things out a bit. Plus I lost a good one to a bridge gone bad--I had to get a root canal in it. That stinks, especially when you're trying to hang on to all the good ones you've got! Cammie's right--they do close up quickly (but it sure makes flossing easier for a while!). Now I don't even miss 'em. One bit of advice, though: make sure you have several packs of wax during this time...I had one in each bathroom, one in my purse, one in the car, one at work, etc. because when those babies start slippin', the wires start pokin'. Carleen P.S. I love your name!!! > > > Hey everyone, > > > I'm just starting this process. Guest guest
Hi Kiya, I can really relate. On Monday I had a lower bicuspid extracted, and another one this morning. There is no turning back now. You are one step closer to were you want to be. Everything I read explains extractions aid in the final esthetics. It allows the surgeon more movement, especially if you need a greater advancement. Good luck. Cathy da1kiwi wrote: Thanks for the response. I hope he can close it fairly quickly.
