Hi Navneet,

Welcome to the group. Where in California is your mother? There may be a

support group near by that she could attend. I also heard there might be a

group starting up soon in Michigan if you're interested. The crying you

describe could be what is known as " emotional lability " or " Pseudobulbar

affect " and is common to many of the neurodegenerative disorders.

This site describes how it might affect people who've had a stroke.

Some ALS patients are taking a drug for this symptom called Neurodex, I

don't know if it would be recommended for MSA patients.

As to the cause of MSA, we don't know for sure yet but researchers hope to

be looking into it in a 5 year study on MSA which should start next year if

funding comes through. I've heard of " sudden trauma " being mentioned before

as in a car accident or operation but I don't think I've ever read " life

time of trauma " as being the cause. Do you remember where you might have

seen this? I try to keep up with all the information pages about MSA that

are around on the web.

Take care,

Pam
