Guest guest
Please help. I had lower jaw surgery on 10-27, and I'm doing ok with pain but I can't eat or talk. Because this was a redo they had to wire/splint me shut for four weeks. I have two small children and they are coming home soon. What am I going to do? Guest guest
You are in the same boat as me. I had mine Oct 26., but was not wired shut. I have two small childeren (boys)(2 and 7) I have been getting a lot of help. There is no way I could have done this without help. Neighbors are babysitting while I sleep, church members are making me dinner and blending it for me (Thank God for my church) my husband took some time off work for me. Try to get as much help as you can. It will help you so much! I even looked into a Nanny service for a couple of weeks. People at work have offered to take my kids to daycare for me or help in whatever way I needed. Take advantage of any help you can get! People really do want to help. Hang in there! > > Please help. Guest guest
Goodness...tricky situation. Ok, let's think. Sounds like you will be flying solo witht he kids...how old, can they read, do they have school, how many...tell me more. Now about eating and talking...are your lips still numb and not moving? I know mine were 1 wk out...that is not working well. That;s about when I was FINALLY able to get a straw anchored and get fluids and things w/o a syringe (which worked, but was combursome and a lot of cleaning---get a giant one...like 6 or more inches...those really get it in, not the dribble of the hand size ones. So for talking, best thing you can do is a little exercise each day and let your body do it's thing...sorry I know this stinks. If your kids can read...then you can write things, call them with a clapper or a tamborine anything that will make a loud sound w/o your mouth...they will know you're ok when you hug them and look them in the eyes even if you can't talk and eat...give it a little time. I would seriously say if you have no one else...a few hrs a day with a babysitter there is a near must...to regroup, to care for you, to freak out-we all do it sometimes, and so on...healing is very impt and we all forget to try and put ourselves first for this short but so impt time. Now eating, if you can manage a straw...I'm going to make you very happy. YOU CAN BLEND ANYTHING...I mean anything. I did and I gained. And LOVED the foods...ready...did simple things like, mashed pot. but more thin...extra butter, water, milk--very healthy and tasty...but I wasn't going to be limited...veggies...done, turkey cutlets with turk gravy-done, stove top stuff-done...and more more more...I even did...ready...chinese food -wonderful and salad-sooo darn tasty and good for you. So fill me in and we'll work on it! JO ps--you're not alone...and this is ONLY temporary...take it easy on You huh? you're the only YOU, you have! > > Please help.
