Guest guest
I am new to this group and am enjoying the information immensely! I underwent a lap RNY on February 13, 2002, at UC San Francisco. My surgeon was Dr. Marco Patti. So far, I am down 139 pounds post-op, and 24 pre-op, total 163. I recently underwent a panni removal on January 23, 2003, at UC San Francisco. I lost ten pounds from the removal plus four after the surgery. I find, that like almost everyone else, I struggle to lose my last 20 pounds. I am 5'7 " and wear a size 12 in pants, medium in missy and large in junior tops. I weigh in at 165 now. Although, I have fluctuated five pounds up in the past week! UGHHH! Fighting the carb demons and depression. I am very grateful and lucky that I was able to have this surgery. I have not had any problems to speak of and can eat pretty much everything. I don't dump which is extra hard. I fight the carb demon daily. On the downside, I was recently diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis which makes it extremely difficult for me to exercise as I should. I am naturally bummed out about this as I worked so hard to get to where I am today. This is the reason I have fallen back into old habits of junk food, carbs, etc.... I am hoping to get encouragement and information from this group to keep going onto my goal. I know I can do it, after losing 163 pounds, what is 20??? Right?? I am grateful to be able to share this with all of you as I belong to other groups where the newbies can't understand what all the fuss is about, only being 20 pounds shy of goal. I know where they are coming from as I have been there. Be grateful for what you have accomplished, would have been my response a year ago. Unfortunately, it doesn't work this year........ To me, being 20 pounds shy of my goal, is like coming in second place and I want to be the winner I am!!!! Thanks for being there. Blessings, Bev M. Hey everybody my name is , my son Noah was born with club foot in the left foot. He is 4 months old, we have been through the ringer with casts and doctors and now they want to do sergery. I got in touch with Dr. Ponseti and I'm going to Iowa Aug. 2nd. I'm looking forward to the trip, I will be staying there until his foot correction is completed since I'm travling from California. I have a couple of questions about when I get there for any of you who have made the trip. I plan to stay at the Mc house. How far is that from the hospital? Is it a nice place to stay? is it a nice place for long term? Whats near there, since I wont know anybody what is there to do down there? And last whats it like when you go to your appoinment with Dr. Ponseti, I'm aware thats its a clinic on Mon, Weds, & Fri so is it like everyone goes at once and the Dr makes his rounds? How long does each appointment take? Please I'd love to hear about anyones experiances there. Thanks, & Noah
Guest guest
, Welcome to you and Noah. You will love Dr. Ponseti and Iowa City isn't too bad either. My family lives in Iowa City, so if you have any questions at all, feel free to ask. I'm not sure the exact distance from the Mc House to the hospital, but it is just down the road. I know the RMH has shuttles that go up to the hospital at pretty regular intervals during the day and you can schedule it to go other places as well. Although I haven't personally had to stay there, I have been there and it is a wonderful place. Other than the hospital and Carver Hawkeye Arena (where the university plays it's basketball games and wrestling matches), there isn't much to do within a short walk. There is a decent bus system that runs $.75 to ride and can get you most places in town. There is also the Cambus which is free and can get you to downtown Iowa City. Coralville. which is the next town over has a nice mall with a children's museum, ice skating rink (not that you'll ice skate with a 4 month old), and a soft play area (again, not necessarily something for a 4 month old). If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask. You can also send me your number off the list and I'd be more than happy to call you before you get into town. bearalways03 wrote: > Hey everybody my name is , my son Noah was born with club foot > in the left foot. Guest guest
Hi , Good decision, you won't regret it. We made the trip from South Africa almost 2 and a half years ago and it was a really great experience. Meeting Dr Ponseti and his team ... the feeling that you get when you walk into his section is just too overwhelming to describe properly. We stayed in RMD, it's affordable and comfortable. Their staff are very friendly and helpful. Try to get a suite if you can, there are only a few but they are great for a longer stay, they have a full kitchen and separate lounge/eating area, ours had a TV in the bedroom. It only cost $5.00 a day more when we were there and it's really worth it if you can get one. There are laundries on each floor where you can wash and dry clothes for free (even detergents are donated), a communal kitchen with lots of donated food, and free internet access on their computers in the recreation rooms. We took their shuttle to the hospital for appointments because it was quick and convenient. We also hired a car for part of the stay and did trips to Coralville mall, which is great, downtown Iowa City is nice and there are some nice country drives through Amish communities and small towns nearby which are fun to do. Guest guest
I should have added that they give you an appointment time every time you go to see Dr Ponseti. We never really had to wait for him, one time it was about 15 mins, but that was the longest. When the casts are on you go a little earlier so they can cut them off in the cast room first. Guest guest
Hi Yuuko! Yes we are going the 2nd, next tuesday and Dr Ponseti thinks we will be there about 3 weeks, I am also staying at the Ronal Mc house and I'm going to call tomarrow and find out about shuttle information because Dr. Ponseti told me something about a shuttle that goes to the house. I will let you know. Hope to see you there! Good luck with the delivery, you are so lucky to know everything you do now, I didnt find out about Noah's foot until he was born and worst of all the bone head Dr's at Kaiser didnt know what they were doing and led me on like they did until he was 2 1/2 months old when finally one told me that he didnt know what he was doing. Your very lucky, hope for a safe delivery and healthy baby! Guest guest
Hi Yuuko, I spoke with Joyce she said that right when you get outside the airport there are shuttles there and you just tell them to take you to the Mcdonald house. She was'nt sure of how much they charge. She said it very easy though and you dont even have to call them. Good luck agin with your delivery and hope to see you there! I will e-mail when I get there if I do end up staying at the house and let you know exactly how it was. Take care. yt94123 wrote: Thank you ! Good luck and safe travels! See you possibly soon!
