Guest guest
Hi, I did a regimen of homeopathic remedies as prescribed by a registered homeopath, both pre and post-op. I'd recommend consulting someone with good experience. It's important to know what to take, and for how long. Buying things off the shelf isn't for me, anyway. I took various combinations of remedies at different times for deep tissue healing, swelling & bruising, bone fractures, clearing the anaesthetic, emotional shock, etc. I think they contributed to my quick recovery, especially the first day post-op. I started taking remedies as soon as I was back in my room. My surgeon, when asked, was indifferent about them - he'd had patients that had used them with no ill effects. I used surgical support cassettes too, and I believe they helped as well. The resident surgeon said I had the fastest recovery he'd ever seen for this type of procedure (I had upper/lower/genio). You'll probably find that the homeopathic/allopathic issue is as divisive as the cosmetic/functional issue here, though : ) I'm definitely in the functional camp. Check out the PERSONAL SURGERY EXPERIENCES on the geocities info website too at http://www.geocities.com/orthognathicinfo - my surgery story is there as well as a few other good ones. Hope that helps, > > I've heard about people using homeopathic medicine to reduce > swelling and things caused by orthognathic surgery? Has anyone done > this? Guest guest
The main ones that worked for me were- 1)vitamin c (2000mg) for bone and tissue growth. 2)liquid calcium magnesium (1 tbsp) for bone growth and to counter constipation from pain meds. 3)yogurt with live cultures to replace the acidopholus and bifidus killed by the antibiotics. 4)bromelain/papain (pinapple/papaya enzyme)500mg 3 times a day to reduce swelling and bruising, increase antibiotic uptake, and to break up mucous. 'clear-ease' brand buccol lozenges. other than the vitamin c which i can't quantify all others seem to work really well. good luck/eric > > I've heard about people using homeopathic medicine to reduce > swelling and things caused by orthognathic surgery? Guest guest
Hi, Arnica montana helped me with a previous surgery (not a dental issue) and I used it prior and post my SARPE too. I think it helped take the swelling and bruising down to minimum, because I had not much neither and they went away really fast. I also took some Aconitum napellus which is supposed to calm you down if you're very nervous about the surgery. I'm not sure if that was of any use, but it didn't do any harm either. Good luck! - Joplin orthognathicsurgerysupport , " stupid_conformists " <stupid_conformists@y...> wrote: > > I've heard about people using homeopathic medicine to reduce > swelling and things caused by orthognathic surgery? Guest guest
Talk to your surgeon about it. I was going to use arnica also and one other thing that i cannot think of the name of right now and my surgeon did not want me doing any homeopathic stuff. i tend to think he is anti-chiro and anti-homeo though, but i followed his advice. now i am having chiro work done on interior muscles and he simply said to apply moist heat and word outside mucscles. was not helping, this is. Go figure. i was too afraid to do anything with homeo since he advised against and i did not want anything to come back and bite me, if anything went wrong. good luck. katie > > I've heard about people using homeopathic medicine to reduce > swelling and things caused by orthognathic surgery? Guest guest
Hi , It's always good advice to check with the surgeon, but in the end, one has to make their own decision. The surgeons are experts in their own fields, the chiropractors/homeopaths/naturopaths and other alternative therapists are experts in theirs. Like anything, it's up to the individual what they choose. I'm lucky to have a GP that says " if we can't find anything to help you, by all means, check out alternatives " . And lucky to have a surgeon that's been through so many of these that he's heard of most of these things - even so, he is indifferent to their use. That's been my experience anyway. I definitely prefer a non-surgical and non- drug alternative if I can get it. > > > > I've heard about people using homeopathic medicine to reduce > > swelling and things caused by orthognathic surgery?
