Guest guest
I had been pretty lucky in this 2-year orthognathic journey I've been on... I didn't mind braces, surgery went better than I could've asked for.... however, I just got my braces off on Monday, and received my retainers yesterday.. and I hate them.. My ortho was nice and gave me two sets of retainers (the clear Essix retainers to wear in the day, and the regular Hawley retainers to wear every night).. but the Hawley ones are bothering me a lot.. My questions for all of you done treatment and now just using retainers: With a Hawley retainer, are the metal rings supposed to go completely around your molars? Can you feel them with your tongue when you're wearing it? Or should they be pushed all the way between your teeth so that they're virtually touching the gum? The reason I ask is because I cannot bite down completely when my retainers are in... there is metal in the way and so I bite funny on my right eye tooth.. Also, my bite feels funny and sore after I take my retainer out to eat or brush... my bite was perfectly even and now in the day that I've worn retainers it feels weird and uneven... anyone have a similar experience? For those with clear Essix retainers, how long do you soak them in denture cleaners to keep them from getting cloudy? I know, lots of questions and slightly unrelated to jaw surgery since I'm past that part, but any advice would be great, thank you!
