Guest guest
Hi, Hopefully it will help to know you are not alone!! I am 8 days post- op, and also had a rotten Thanksgiving! However, I got my husband to freeze me a " thanksgiving dinner " , who knows when I can eat it, but it will be there. I had upper and lower surgery, to correct for asymmetry. Aside from the the difficulties immediately following surgery, I feel I am doing very well. I am wired shut with a bite plate, and was unpleasantly surprised to find out how difficult it was to speak. I have one more week until I move to rubber bands. I am also trying to get enough nutrition with protein shakes and so forth- but am quite sick anything sweet or made with cream/milk. I am using a syringe to " eat " - it seems to work fairly well, except what ever I am eating has to be very thinned down. Good luck to you. > > Hello all... > > I just figured out how to post here, so I hope this works. Guest guest
Your post worked fine... And welcome to the group. You sound frustrated, and I don't blame you. But if you're 11 days out of surgery, you're past the hardest part, I'd think. Do you have a dry erase board? If not, invest in one, or get someone to get one for you. That's a big aid to communication. (I have never understood why hospitals don't provide these. I mean, if they could sell me a flashlight post-op -- which they did, at a lavish price, I'm sure -- why can't they provide a dry-erase board for those who need one?) I bruised a lot, too -- but then I bruise a lot if a leaf brushes me. It's not at all unusual, and will go away soon, I'd expect. You might try applying some arnica cream to speed things up -- that's a health-food-store remedy for bruising (and maybe swelling, too). Yep. The elastics irritated my cheeks. Not badly, but particularly the ones up front were a nuisance. Bad news: If your treatment is at all like mine, be prepared for more of them in your future. But you'll get through it. Vitamin E oil might help. Through a straw? Are you sure you're sposed to be doing that? Some docs ban straws for a while, to protect the stitches. To liquefy, add broth, milk, even water, or juice -- whatever fits what you're trying to eat/drink. You do have a blender, don't you? Are you wired? Banded? or " just " struggling? And hey, this may be the worst thanksgiving you've had, but Christmas isn't far away, and that may be the best! (More turkey and dressing. And as an oral surgeon recently remarked to me, all the best stuff is soft.... Mashed potatoes, dressing, gravy, cranberry jelly, etc., etc.) And I'll bet NEXT year's Thanksgiving will also be the best ever. Hang in there.
