Guest guest
Hey guys, been gone a while from the boards, but thought I'd check back in with my 15 week status. I had lower advancement surgery on August 24th. Moved my jaw forward about 8-9mm. The surgery was for the most part uneventful, with the exeception of the allergic reaction to the morphine that is (broke out into a rash, found out from my allergist that this is somewhat normal and that in the future I need a slower morphine drip instead of a big injection all at once). My surgeon was so happy he was bouncing around the hospital room when it was all done, my family tells me he was super excited when he saw them when the surgery was over as well. That's always a good sign, and it was! I only took 1 week off work, I had very little swelling, and only one bruise where I hit my face with the telephone in the hospital -- oops! 5 weeks ago I was given the go ahead to resume all normal activities, including the rock climbing I've been terribly missing, though since it's winter, it's gym climbing for me. Better than nothing though! I can open 2 and a half fingers or so now, and I can eat just about anything though it takes some extra time for chewy and crunchy stuff still. I have some residual pain in my right ear from the whole ordeal, orthodontics included I think, and also because my muscles are healing/stretching unevenly. When I open my mouth it's crooked with my jaw farther to the right instead of straight. With the help of stretching exercises and strength exercises from my Chiropractor it's gotten a lot better, and now it's only a little off to the right. As of yesterday I only wear my orthodontic elastics 12 hours a day over night instead of constantly. My next visit to the Ortho is marked " Check for finish " , so the light at the end of the braces tunnel is finally in view! I have a little bit to go on my jaw I think, but so far it's still better than I expected for only 15 weeks. Thanks to everyone for being here for me and answering all of my questions! ~Jen
