Good morning everyone, i'd like to introduce myself. my name is kate

and i'm 21 months post op open rny. pre op i was 268lbs and now i

weigh 120lbs (i'm only 5'1/4 " ).

i facilitate a wls support group in california and i have a pretty

good website with lots of info.

i am looking for other post ops who have gotten into weight lifting.

i started doing it to train for a physical agility test for a job

and i really enjoy it a lot.

Problem: looks like i have a hernia now. i was lifting 120# and felt

a " rip " between running parallel to my incision, next to my pouch. i

did see my pcp but he couldn't feel anything so he said it was a

muscle pull. (i don't agree with him, i know my body and have had

muscle pulls but...) i gave myself a few weeks rest and have

returned to lifting weights (not as heavy though) i get pain in the

area after exercising sometimes and sometimes after eating.

yesterday i was doing tricep pushups at the pool and a pre-op nurse

asked me how long i'd had my hernia for and another nurse across the

pool said she could see it too.

has anyone had a hernia located between their incision and their

pouch?

do i go see a plastic surgeon first or a general surgeon? (heck if i

have to have another surgery may as well get tucked too!)

does this mean i can't weight lift anymore? (after i get it fixed)

we had a member of our support group, 3 years post op develop an

internal " deep " hernia where they couldn't feel it from palpation

and she ended up having emergency surgery.

*phew* sorry for being so long winded....i read all over

obesityhelp.com last night but couldn't find the answers i need.

thanks for listening,

kate
