Guest guest
Well, I'm not really sure if my periodontist has concluded what caused the recession. I've been to two periodontists about my problems and so far I haven't been too impressed. Periodontists (like many doctors) don't practice an exact science. They can usually only speculate what is causing the problem and try different treatments. At least that has been my experience. For instance, I now have a $375!! night guard because she thinks I might be grinding my teeth while I sleep (this can lead to recession). She also gave me detailed instructions on how to brush and floss, which I try to follow religiously. So far that doesn't seem to be helping either. Many, many factors can lead to gum recession and it can be difficult to find a solution. I have always blamed the surgery and the braces because my gums really seemed to take a turn for the worse at that point. I think all the rapid movement of the teeth combined with the difficulty in cleaning caused a bunch of problems. But who knows? I can't get a straight answer. I'm only 29 years old so I'm not too thrilled about the prospect or early tooth loss, but I have yet to find an effective treatment. - > > > > > > > > > I've recently noticed my gums are receding in certain areas.
