Guest guest
, I am a Physician Assistant and trust me, what you did is very appropriate. Working as a team is a must but sometimes you as a patient need to set boundaries. [Norton AntiSpam] Any Opinions? Hi, I have been reading posts for a couple of months. I thank everyone for their stories. I feel like I am so much more prepared for surgery. I am wondering if someone would give me their opinion. I am going to have lower jaw surgery. Been in braces for 1 yr. My ortho told me I had a 1mm space to close up then I would be ready for surgery this fall! 6 weeks later the space was totally closed and he said " maybe surgery in the spring, definately summer. " I said why spring now, what went wrong. He said " nothing went wrong, I will know when you are ready. We have to work together. " And by the way... The OS (they are friends) is behind and having problems getting people in for Dec. I was furious! I work as a school nurse and will not have 2 weeks off again untill summer. So I called the OS and talked to his surgery nurse.I explained the situation and she said she could fit me in to see the OS in Nov. and maybe fit me in for Dec b/c lower would only take 1 1/2 hrs. I feel like I really went behind my Ortho's back. I like him and now am afraid to face him. Any opinions??? Thanks.. _________________________________________________________________ Express yourself instantly with MSN Messenger! Guest guest
To be honest, I wouldn't have gone about it that way. However, you did, and so that's that. The docs should be mature and secure enough not to get their noses out of joint about it, I'd think. What I think I would do, and you still can, is to ask for an appointment or a phone call with your ortho, and tell him you do not understand. That you had understood that all the prep you still needed was the closing of that space, and that's accomplished. That you had real job reasons for wanting to get it done this fall, and that you don't understand why you aren't ready now. Being " furious " won't help, nor will suspecting sinister motives, unless you have more basis than you've told us, in which case you could have even bigger troubles. I would not be confrontational with the ortho, nor accusatory, but I would ask for an explanation, and more than an " I will know when you're ready. " Tell him you want to understand what's going on, that you don't now, and that you'll work with him any way you can. It may be that after one problem was resolved, something else was disclosed that hadn't been apparent earlier. It's also not out of line, in my book, for you to have asked about a surgeon's scheduling situation. Some are booked months and months in advance, and if something goes awry, or someone " forgets " to call for an appointment (it's happened, believe it or not), you can be delayed unnecessarily. You certainly are not unreasonable in wanting to have an idea how to plan around the disruptions in your life that the surgery will bring. Just try to remember that it's all a cooperative project, and that you need everybody's help to get it going -- at this point, too, you need them more than they need you, so a bit of sugar-coating won't hurt. ;~> Cammie > Hi, I have been reading posts for a couple of months.
