This is exactly the same kind of diet I had to be on except i was on it for 8

weeks, then went on to cream soups, mashed potatoes, and things thicker than

broth...

Nora, I'm surprised your surgeon didn't have a good consultation with

you to walk you through the post op process and help you with a list of

suggested drinks/food and such. There is a web site you should visit

called sabariatric.com and it has a full description of the gastric

bypass diet and other rules to follow. The gastric_bypass_family.com

site will also have suggested meals and guides you should be following.

My doc has a program that keeps me on clear liquids for 7 days. This

includes water, hot or cold tea, sf jello, sf popsicles, or any liquid

you can see through with no sugar.

After 7 days, change to full liquids which includes the creamy soups,

protien shakes if tolerated but not required, sf ice cream bars and

other liquid things. I loved tomato soup, cup of soup cream of chicken,

and sf fudgesicles. I didn't tolerate protien drinks very well this

soon.

A specific rule: No bread, rice or corn until 5 month's. It fills the

pouch and the corn is too harsh.

Around 10-14 days post op, I could move on to soft and mushy. I loved

split pea soup, mashed potatos, green beans can mash up nice, oatmeal,

cream of wheat, eggs, vienna sausage, whatever you can think of that

smashes down.

About 3 weeks out, you can start eating most of what is put at the

dinner table, just get that little plate and only a few bites very well

chewed will do. Get a small fork and spoon. This will help you to take

small bites.

I loved potroast, roasted chicken the most.

I hope this helps!

what to eat?

i am 4 day out from my surgery. I didn't get anything from my doctor

want to know if there is anything Sugar free I can eat other than the

can print it out and have it. Can I have SF ice cream or soups what is

high In protening that i can have. I don't know and may afraid what i

Nora, it's a shame they didn't tell you what they want you to eat! I'm sure

if you called their office, they could tell you. You'll get many different

answers here as doctors seem to vary as to what you can eat. I can tell you

what mine is. I'm 6 weeks now, and the only food I had trouble with is

scrambled eggs.

1st week, clear liquids, broth or strained soups, coffee, tea, juice, water,

Crystal Light, sugar free gelatin

2nd week-Refried beans, mashed hard boiled egg with mustard or tiny bit of

fat-free mayo, split pea soup,

tomato soup, lentil soup, mashed sweet potato, mashed white potato,

applesauce, mashed banana, cream of

wheat, sugar free fat-free pudding.

I have a list also for weeks 3-6, but as my doctor doesn't advocate protein

shakes, I think it wise for you to check with them as to what they want you

to eat.

I've been eating toast since the 3rd week, only heavy wheat though, no white

puffy stuff. Never had a problem with it. I still haven't tried the red

meats other than hamburger, although they say I can. I just know that

chicken is so much softer and easy to chew. And yes, I bet every surgeon

has different meal-plans for us.

It's it strange how we react to different food? I'd imagine this could be

part of the reasons that different doctors and dieticians prescribe

different foods.....

Roast or steak sit really well on my stomach. Hamburgers don't.
