Guest guest
My surgeon mentioned that facial muscles need to adjust and grow to the new jaw placement… anyone heard this from their surgeon? The surgeon suggested I should wait at least 1 year before i can see the true final appearance because the facial muscles need to grow and adjust to the new jaw placement… He also suggested there are really no exercises that can be done to speed up this process... Has anyone been told this before?

Guest guest
I don't know about actually speeding up the process, but I am familiar with the facial muscle strain, stretch, and adjustment. I was told pre-op that it would be like this, and now that I'm post-op it's definately part of the healing process. I'm only 4 weeks post-op and my facial muscles still feel tight and stiff and sore. I started chewing soft foods a couple weeks ago and it's aggravated it a lot again. My OS is having me do stretching exercises and massage (on my own) to help loosen up the muscles and get them moving better. I don't know how much it's helping the healing process, but it's definately helped me to be able to open slightly wider, and it makes it feel better after eating. ~Jen > My surgeon mentioned that facial muscles need to adjust and grow to > the new jaw placement… anyone heard this from their surgeon? > > The surgeon suggested I should wait at least 1 year before i can see > the true final appearance because the facial muscles need to grow > and adjust to the new jaw placement… > > He also suggested there are really no exercises that can be done to > speed up this process... > > Has anyone been told this before? Guest guest
Major typo in there - I started chewing a couple DAYS ago, not weeks. -Jen > > My surgeon mentioned that facial muscles need to adjust and grow to > > the new jaw placement… anyone heard this from their surgeon? > > > > The surgeon suggested I should wait at least 1 year before i can see > > the true final appearance because the facial muscles need to grow > > and adjust to the new jaw placement… > > > > He also suggested there are really no exercises that can be done to > > speed up this process... > > > > Has anyone been told this before?
