Guest guest
Just kidding. I has a class III prognanthic profile and will needs braces. Can anyone tell me (if your in similar situation) how long from start of braces to day 1 of surgery. All things being equal of course. I do realize braces will continue after surg. in San Calif. Do those Stanford guys perform jaw reduction?

Guest guest
Hi -- I had a Class III underbite (mandibular hypperplasia, prognathic lower jaw) and I had my lower jaw set back 5mm on July 15th. I got my braces on Halloween 2002, had the surgery July 15th 2004 and will need 6-9 months of braces after I finish with the Oral Surgeon. I was wired shut (well, actually " tightly banded " ) for 6 weeks and then had 3 rubber bands for a couple of weeks down to one rubber band for several more weeks (7 weeks total today). Today I see the OS and if he says my bite has settled it's on to the final 6-9 months of orthodontia. So, that's about 2 1/2 years total. I am 36 so your's might be quicker. Actually, the longest part of this surgery was getting the insurance approval. My orthodontist wouldn't start the braces until he received approval from the insurance company that they would actually cover the surgery. Well, I hope this helps. Guest guest
Well, I'm not through it all yet, but I've had braces on since Feb. 1, 2004 and I'm on schedule for surgery by March 2005 (was December 2004). There's 13 months plus the 3-6 months my ortho says I'll need after the surgery. My guess is that the whole thing will end up taking 2 years as these guys seem to err on the short side - I've not talked to one person who has made it through this in the original estimate their ortho gave them. > Just kidding. Guest guest
- I also have an underbite. haven't actually gotten my braces yet, but I'm told that they will be on for about a year before the surgery. I had braces for 2 years when I was younger, so the braces will only be used to align my teeth so that they are ready for surgery. I was also told that they'll have to be on for up to a year after surgery. - > Just kidding. I has a class III prognanthic profile and will needs > braces. Guest guest
Hi , I also have an underbite...let's see...my whole process started last November when I had my wisdom teeth removed...braces went on one month later on December 8 and I will be having surgery (to decrease lower jaw, push it back, upper pallate expansion and push it forward and realignment) on November 11th. I was told 8-10 of ortho work pre- surgery, so they really have only gone a month over their estimate. I had initially been quoted a year and a half or so, but after they got my models back, they knocked down the time-I had 7 years of ortho work as a kid (I'm 25 now) so I think I was in better shape than they expected. I asked my ortho at my last visit how long I could expect the braces to be on post-surgery...he said he couldn't give me a clear answer on that until afterward. Some people say a year, others a few months, so I guess that's a wait and see kind of thing. Best of luck! Molly > > > > > Just kidding.
