Guest guest
Teeth can be damaged and die in the process of these procedures. And one sign of that can be a change in color. Sorry, and I hope that is not it for you. It doesn't happen very often, but that doesn't help if it's happening to you, I know. Guest guest
Hi there, Thank you so much for the replies! I just came from my ortho and he said the tooth was not dead at all but it was just the dentin showing through and can be whitened up. He said the canine teeth are always darker than the rest of the teeth, etc., etc., so I guess I was just over-reacting (although it really does look translucent and brownish)... Thanks again, Meredith > > Hi there, > > > > It's been a while since I've been on this board - I'm about 5 > months > > post-op. Guest guest
Meredith, good to hear it's not dead. I was prescribed chlorhexidine gluconate as a suture rinse and the main side effect is listed as tooth discoloration. I've noticed the same thing but have since started tooth whitening (over the counter) and it has helped. good luck/eric > > > Hi there, > > > > > > It's been a while since I've been on this board - I'm about 5 > > months > > > post-op. Guest guest
If chlorhexidine gluconate is the same as Peridex (which can have the same effect) a good professional cleaning can also take care of any staining. I was using Peridex (didn't like it at all -- yuckk! the taste -- but I was doing it, anyhow) but my periodontist told me not to use it. I know a number of dentists do, but I believe she thinks it can actually encourae the growth of tartar, and my mouth needs no encouragement at all to do that! cammie > > > > Hi there, > > > > > > > > It's been a while since I've been on this board - I'm about 5 > > > months > > > > post-op.
