Guest guest
, Incase you haven't tried this, go to the obesityhelp.com web site and you'll find a list of bariatric surgeons that are in your area. You can find them by state so if there are other places nearby that you are willing to travel to, it makes the looking even better for you. You should find a list of surgeons that you can call and ask about the insurance. It will probably take you less time then it will your PCP office to do this. Don't ever give up, you will find your rainbow!!! Notice from my PCP Hi all, Just wanted to update you on the progress of finding me a surgeon who will take my insurance. This email was sent to me by my Primary Care Physician. I am on Amerigroup/Medicaid, and so in away I think this is going to take a little longer than I thought. I just hope I do not get to the point of loosing the enthusiasm and excitement about doing this. Yours in Recovery, Details on Weight Loss Surgery > > > Dear Dr. , > > > I spoke with Amerigroup and they were telling me that what needed to be done was that being that my medical records were at Garland Family Practice that they (Amerigroup) needed to see my medical records to help determin that it was a medically necassary proceedure and that during this time you could call and check on the progress of approval or denial. I gather from what you have told me at our last visit that this is what you all were doing, but I was not really certain. That is why I am sending you this information. Can you please update me on the progress or lack of if there is any? > > > King > > > > This e-mail, facsimile, or letter and any files or attachments transmitted with it contains information that is confidential and privileged. Guest guest
, yes getting the right combination of surgeons and insurance group can be tough. Every insurance company has different criteria to be able to get WLS. I don't know how long it has been for you since you decided on this surgery, but I 1st saw my primary doctor the 1st week of January, and didn't get surgery until 11/18. I pulled string after string, and did hurry up the process from what others with this insurance company have experienced. I never lost hope along the way, I was just so frustrated that medical conditions were permanently leaving damage on my body while I jumped through their hoops. An acquaintance of mine had the surgery last year, and for her it took 2 years, so I consider myself lucky. A friend who had her surgery 12/02 only took 4 months I think. So, stay on it as much as you can. I wish you best of luck getting through their maze. Guest guest
Don't be too swayed by the number of years or cases your surgeon has done. I was about the 45th RNY my surgeon had performed and my procedure was flawless. I have had no complications. His credentials were great as a surgeon and he was trained by a very reputable bariatric program in Boston. My theory is this....As the obesity program at this hospital was relitively new, the surgeon had to work twice as hard to be sure that he did everything right. The hospital was extremely cautious and I'm sure they were watching him closely. My doc has had no deaths and no major complications to date. In some ways, I'm glad to have someone new rather than someone who takes this surgery for granted. Best of luck, 11/18/03 284/249/225/? Guest guest
I agree with you regarding not being swayed by the number of years or cases a surgeon has. I was the 5th Lap RNY case for my surgeon. He took his time and made sure everything was perfect. I'm almost 3 months out and have had no complications. His credentials were great as a surgeon. Another surgeon that I had considered has been doing bariatric surgery for years and has a high volume of leaks and other complications that requires post-ops to be in ICU for weeks and months. I'm glad that I chose my surgeon!!! I also am glad to have someone new rather than someone that runs a meat market and sloppy!!! ~H.
