Guest guest
hello, i am just curious to know whether or not anyone has ever heard of a WLS patient being able to undergo a 'fundoplication' operation for severe acid reflux AFTER WLS? i am curious, b/c i am 3 years post-op and have always had severe GERD. from previous scopes (post RNY) i know that my lower esophageal sphincter is flaccid and does not contract like it's supposed to, hence the acid problem. i know many WLS patients' reflux problems are cured - but not me. i have an endo scheduled for the day after tomorrow. they are also looking for ulcers, due to pain under my left rib cage, and possible staple line disruption b/c i have gained 18# within the last 10 months. from yet another previous scope (post rny), it was reported that i had a 'tiny' staple line disruption - which they thought may have happened when i had a stricture that had to be ballooned open. anyway... thanks for letting me ramble... just wondering if anyone has heard of it being possible to do the fundoplication operation after WLS. many thanx! ~ in Indy http://www.angelfire.com/in/blwed/wls.html

Guest guest
If you have SLD, why not fix it? That should take care of the acid problem, too. Thanks, Vitalady, Inc. Guest guest
, I went through this and was told that I cannot ever have a fundoplication unless I am willing to sign all sorts of papers saying that I know I'm risking my RNY, etc. etc. Essentially, my bypass is more important to my health than totally eradicating my GERD, and as a fundoplication is very risky for folks like us, I'd avoid it at all costs. Sounds like you might end up with a revision thanks to a SLD... Good luck with that!
