Guest guest
Yesterday I went to a pre-operative seminar for Weight loss surgery. Yes, you did read it right. After 3 suscesses in our family, my youngest daughter has decided that this is a vaible alternative to the medical problems she has been facing. Our biggest concern was the NSAID medications she has been taking for her Juvenile Rhumetiod Arthritis disqualifying her from having a RNY. The surgeon told us that she could go onthe 2 enzyme inhibitors, but her relief haas been poor with these medications. It seems like a lap band may be her best, and possible only alternative. Here's the 2nd problem. As with many overweight women of child bearing age, PCOS is also a problem. Having had 5 surgeries for ovarian torsioning aleady, the have her on Depo Shots (DON " T YELL AT ME!) it control ovulating. This is a hormone shot usually taken ever 13 weeks, but she needs them between 9 and 10 weeks or continues to have problems. Use of contraceptives is a surgical risk and you must be off oral contraceptives for 30 days prior to surgery. Does anyone here in the group have any experience with this medication and any complications which they had pre-op or post-op from taking them?? I never said this would be easy, did I!
