Guest guest
Trena, pregnancy is probably healther and safer post wls for the majority of patients. I know it is for me. We consulted our doc before deciding to conceive and he informed me that I was at my healthiest point to have a child now than I had been in the past 15+ years. Concerning weight gain, its to be expected, but as long as one doesn't allow themselves to become carried away with the " eating for two " theory and start making bad choices, it shouldn't be a problem. Eating healthy is just as important for a growing baby as it is for the mother so that should be our focus. Vitamins, water, exercise... all those are necessary for a woman when carring a child regardless of whether they have had wls or not. I think the main issue is being right with yourself. Being comfortable with your health and how you handle the post wls life. If gaining weight is your main concern with having a child, then you are probably not emotionally ready to conceive and its best to wait. Its all a balance of mental and physical health. I'm not concerned about the weight I gain during my pregancy. The dr's office has a base weight and will monitor my gains for me. If there is a concern I'm sure they will let me know. As far as nourishment goes, I've been told that as long as I'm eating as I should the baby will get what it needs, and even if I wasn't the baby would take all its nourishment from me and I would be the one to suffer. I was dead set on going to a high risk OBGyn before I even got pregnant, but my doc feels that it is unnecessary as long as every thing is normal and that it has been his experience that post wls patients are at no more risk than non WLSers. My OBGyn/surgeon/and pcp keep each other informed so what one misses the other might catch. I think that you should really take this on however you feel the most comfortable with. Guest guest
Hi, I am on another group of women who are pregnant and trying to get pregnant after gastric bypass surgery. I myself am 41 years old and currently 10 weeks along. There are many on my other group that are faurther along that I am and the weigh gain is minimal, like 25-40 pounds. One lady just had twins last week and has lost all but 10 pounds already She is estatic. The weight from what I have read is really only baby weight and comes off really easy. Since we have had our surgeries we are not eating the junk we used to and gaining all the EXTRA prenatal weight the doc does not want us to have, this time we eat better, healthier foods and only gain what we are supposed to and from what I have seen on the groups it comes right off and easily too. I decided to go for it since my age was getting too close to ever having another one. This one will be my last for sure since I am no sping chicken anymore but at least by having the gastric bypass I am more healthier, ambitious and I know I can take good care of a new child again, I could not have kept up with a toddler before surgery. Thank God for this new lease on life and I am going to make the fullest out of it. Having another child is a very personal; choice though and it is all up to you and your hubby, not any of us. Good Luck with your choice and God Bless, HUGS, ROBIN, NY Age- 41 Due Date- July 27th, 2004 OPEN RNY 10-18-02 378/246/170??? Guest guest
hey trena, i will pretty much echo what's been said: it would be so much tougher to have an MO pregnancy & have to worry & worry about pre-eclempsia & gestational diabetes etc etc etc. plus as an MO, i was easily fatigued, can't imagine carrying a watermelon around my belly. lori h. - In Gastric_Bypass_Family , Trena Schelin <cna662000@y...> wrote: > Dear All, > > My husband and I want to have one more child before we > are done with having children. Guest guest
I am sure you will hear many different opinions on this topic... our doctors here in Boston tell us that there is a much greater chance of becoming pregnant after the surgery, but they highly recommend NOT getting pregnant as it is not healthy for the baby to be losing weight during a pregnancy. Now remember, this is just one opinion... *** Liz *** Please Help Support the Quincy Animal Shelter by Shopping with IGive.com " Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away... I know someone on this chat room is currently expecting but I really want to know whether it is wise to have a baby after you have this operation. Guest guest
Trena, that was a big factor in my deciding on the surgery. My doc told me that yes you can have a healthy pregnancy post-op, but they recommend that you wait at least a year before getting pregnant. When you are losing the weight that quickly, it can be difficult to maintain a pregnancy...hope this helps, sherri Post op pregnancy possibility > > > Dear All, > > My husband and I want to have one more child before we > are done with having children. Guest guest
Trena, I have been pregnant twice as a MO person and my husband and I want to have one more baby but, I have asked my doc. and the surgeon etc. and they said that they want me to wait at least 18 mo. after surgery and after that if I want to have a baby that I should have a perfectly healthy pregnancy. And to tell you the truth, and I know this sounds funny, I really would like to know how it feels to be pregnant and have a little round basketball, watermelon tummy.
