Guest guest
I had lower. For me, they put in the heaviest, stiffest archwires, and made sure they were all tied with wire ligatures. It didn't happen on purpose, but one of my brackets became detached somewhere along the way. I didn't know it until they took my splint out, 7 weeks post-op. My surgeon wired in the splint -- into my upper brace. When I developed some pain in the jaw, he also added some big old twisty wires upstairs, to hold elastics, which eliminated the pain within 15 minutes -- amazing! Guest guest
Cheers c It makes sense to use the biggest archwire. Did you have a progesssion of larger archwires or was it a large jump? I have wire tied on upper and lower, Im not sure but I have had it for ages so maybe thats just orthodontics for me, but then again maybe not... > > > > Hi guys, > > > > What does the orthadontist change with your braces just before > > surgery? Guest guest
I think they went from weak little wimpy wires -- which didn't feel weak or wimpy at the time -- to the stiffer, bigger, tougher ones, as I progressed through treatment. I had elastic ligatures for the first month of my 20-month treatment, then had wire for the rest of the time, best I remember. It didn't matter to me, at least as long as the tech was good about tucking the ends under the archwires. I was also weird in that I preferred having the power chains, because they cushioned the brackets. I think most folks find them painful, but I did not. Or at least I was happy to accept the pain, in exchange for not being scraped inside my mouth. C. > > Cheers c > > It makes sense to use the biggest archwire. Guest guest
Hey , I had a LeForte and BSSO. For me, the orthodontist took out my old wires and put in special ones with these little hooks so that rubber bands could hold my lower and uppder jaw together. I think he forgot to do it because I was already passed out on the operating room table when they replaced the wires. It wasn't stiffer, it just had weird hooks. I got my splint taken out this past Monday, which was week 6.5, and I gotta tell you, the splint didn't smell good. It was attached to my pallet(sp?) and smelled like everything I ate(drank) for the whole ordeal. Hope that helps! Guest guest
Here's some advice, don't let your tongue touch the roof of your mouth when the splint comes out, and have a cup full of mouthwash handy when it happens. You're welcome in advanced. > EEEEEWWWWWWW!!!! I have one of those splints too. I am sure if your's smelled, then mine will too. Yuck! But I think I get food stuck in it and can't get it out. Oh well, doc has seen me at a lot worse than that so I guess it won't be a big deal to him, huh? > > > > From: " Hamms " <donniemusgrove@g...> > > Date: 2004/11/28 Sun PM 07:25:04 GMT > > To: orthognathicsurgerysupport > > Subject: [Orthognathic Surgery Support ] Re: Orthodontics immedietly before surgery > > > > > > >

Guest guest
It totally depends on where your teeth are at if anything needs to be changed. They will add surgical hooks---the are just little hooks- -metal if they are good quality and plastic if they arn't--that are attatched to the wires to hold rubberbads and what not after surgery. > > Hi guys, > > What does the orthadontist change with your braces just before > surgery? Guest guest
When the two assistants (one was training the other) removed my splint after 7 long weeks, the more experienced one advised the newbie, " Now when we go to take it out, the only thing I can suggest is that you hold your breath. " Made me really feel swell, believe me. But then they left the room for me to brush and rinse, etc., so I also brushed the splint clean, or at least I hope I did. (I can't smell anything, ever.) I was amazed at how small it was, compared to the way it had felt. Cammie > EEEEEWWWWWWW!!!! I have one of those splints too. I am sure if your's smelled, then mine will too. Yuck!
