Guest guest
Does anyone know of any good insurance coverage that does cover orthognathic surgery? I know most of our situations are different, and coverage varies but if anyone has any good leads I would appreciate it. This surgery is expensive and I don't think I can pay for it out of pocket. Your posts are very inspiring to me for this surgery, it really seems like a challenging time going through it and the post op.

My daughter had jaw surgery 5 weeks ago after trying to get insurance coverage for a year and a half. Our first try failed after several appeals and even after an appeal to the State Insurance Board. My husband then got a new job and new insurance with Cigna who finally agreed to cover the surgery after 2 appeals. My advice is to not give up and be sure that all the providers involved in your care write letters showing medical necessity/functional deficit. Good luck! Guest guest
I have Blue Shield of California. My surgery was approved on the first submission, and covered in full. Either I have really good insurance, or had a really messed up bite. They paid $75,000 for upper, lower, and genioplasty. (Nope, that wasn't a typo, they actually covered my genioplasty!) I paid $600 out-of-pocket for three nights in the hospital. Hope this helps! Shayna > Does anyone know of any good insurance coverage that does cover > orthognathic surgery? Guest guest
I have BCBS of Georgia (Federal). They approved and paid for 90% of my surgery costs, which was $21500. They did not pay for my genioplasty. I ended up paying about $4000 out of pocket. Take care, > Does anyone know of any good insurance coverage that does cover > orthognathic surgery? Guest guest
Humana is covering my surgery after having been denied twice even with an appeal to Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas. I'm paying $3k out of pocket for upper, lower, and genio.
