Guest guest
Hi everyone, my name is Bea, 34 yrs old and 5 days post-op from upper forward/lower back/bone augmentation on cheeks. I will be wired shut for 6 weeks. I don't think I would have minded so much the wired part, but I have had constant accumulation of phlegm in my throat since the surgery, and i have had to drive 1 hr, one way, to my OS everyday (one day it was 2x!) to get the gunk suctioned out through my nose. I am drinking a TON of water everyday, and I have not slept well since Monday. I don't know why exactly this phlegm is happening. Has this happened to anyone else? It is getting better little by little, taking OTC expectorants, but I am just praying it will go away...I have even started to pray the Prayer of Jabez to " enlarge my territory " by helping me breathe freely, as I am truly afraid of asfixiation while sleeping. Also, talking is rougher than I thought, as I am very difficult to understand even one-syllable words! My upper jaw was moved forward and narrowed, and the big splint is in my way, so I have to write everything down to communicate. Blessings: My bite and midline is perfect, of course! My swelling has gone down in my face, and my lower lip is looking SO much better than 2 days ago! My boyfriend comes by to visit everyday and is my best cheerleader. Mom has also been very supportive despite her limited English and driving skills! I have 3 huge flower arrangements from boyfriend, my surgeon & family doc, and from work. ANY words of encouragement from those who are or have been wired? PLEASE?? Let's share! Love Bea

Guest guest
I am also wired and splinted and going on post op day 5 today. Nice to know someone else is in the same 'predicament' at the same time. I had a lot of phlegm as well, but was able to cough it out, and make it go away. I am trying to get in enough water and don't believe I am doing too bad, but it could be better. It just takes forever to do it. Are you able to cough at all? I know it kind of hurts to do that, but the cough kind of snuck up on me anyways. Use a humidifier or possibly sit in the bathroom with the hot shower going (don't have to be in it) and see if the humidity doesn't loosen it up and let you either swallow it or cough it out. I have had to use a portable suction machine, due to the amount of secretions are annoying. It really helps. I hope any of this helps. Take care and happy healing, Lyn > Hi everyone, my name is Bea, 34 yrs old and 5 days post-op from upper > forward/lower back/bone augmentation on cheeks. I will be wired shut > for 6 weeks. Guest guest
welcome Bea, you might try bromelain(pinapple enzyme) to break up the phlegm, it's also great for the swelling. good luck/eric http://www.drugstore.com/templates/hnotes/default.asp? catid=42744 & trx=HN-HN & p1=2 & p2=42797 & p3=2 & p4=42744 > Hi everyone, my name is Bea, 34 yrs old and 5 days post-op from upper > forward/lower back/bone augmentation on cheeks.
