Guest guest
I have a schedule for taking vitamins but am worried about combining them with certain foods. Somewhere along the way, someone told me not to take iron with fiber. Does anyone have a source or a place to go that can tell me what I should and should not take with calcium, iron, etc? I just don't want to waste time taking stuff and then negating it by eating something that conflicts with it. Also, please don't flog me but I have seen several emails on the flax seed stuff. I know you are supposed to grind it up?? Can you buy it already ground up? (how lazy is that...) Is it just a fiber supplement? I can't remember what it is supposed to help with for WLSers? I checked Dr. Weil's website but did not get a lot of detailed info and am sure someone here can remind me. Sorry again to ask. Thanks... Guest guest
Iron + C Not with: vites minerals meds (unless pharmacist says ok) dairy caffeine there are a few exceptions to the vite/mineral thing, but why confuse the issue? calcium always goes with D, sometimes with magnesium, and some put it with zinc. Then some say don't take it with either. Or with one, but not the other. So, does that narrow your choices right down? LOL! Thanks, Vitalady, Inc. Guest guest
There is a study or two that shows that iron absorption is impeded when taken with foods that contain fiber or phylates (coffee and tea). Generally, it is best to take iron on an empty stomach. If the iron is not in iron amino acid chelate form, then vitamin C should be taken with it. There are different opinions as to whether iron absorption is impeded when the iron is taken with calcium citrate. Nothing seems to impede absorption of iron in iron amino acid chelate form.
