> Hello,

Numb is numb. You cannot feel anything. Like when the doc gives you a shot for

drilling your teeth. The doc put a splint in my mouth without any novacane

because I was still numb. You droll and drop food on yourself because you

cannot feel your lips.

I am still numb after 5 weeks. It takes time for it to go away. But it gets

better each day and I know eventually it will go away completely.

Good luck! It isn't really that bad.

I just had upper and genio done Nov. 17th, so I am 11 day post op

and I was very nervous also before my surgery.

As for the pain make sure you mangage your pain by taking your pain

meds as soon as you feel any twitch of pain. I usually just took

mine every 4 hours for the first 5 days and ice is very good for

numbing the area where you have the pain. The pain is not as bad as

you imagine, just make sure you don't wait too long to take your

pain meds when you feel the pain coming on take them.

The swelling is a nuisance, but it's going to be there. I swelled

the most on day 2 and since then it has been slowing going down. It

seems like the swelling and the numbness go hand in hand and when my

swelling starts going down I don't feel as numb in that area any

more. I think everyone is different as far as numbness, but I am not

completely numb, if I touch the numb area it's kind of tingly and I

can feel myself touching that area but the sensation is not the same

as it normally is.

If anyone has any way to make the swelling go down faster I am all

ears.

Hope this helps and you will do great with the surgery, just keep a

positive attitude.

Hey Pete,

I had a LeForte(upper) and BSSO(lower). Everyone is/was nervous before

the surgery. I won't play it down, but you're gonna have your jaw

broken in a controlled manner, and then fixed! I'm over 7 weeks

post-operation and still have swelling next to my nostrils and on my

right lower jaw.

Right now, numb isn't to numb on my face. I can feel pressure on my

chin but not don't have a lot of sensation. The cheek area right about

my lips is still numb, and has the same feeling as my chin. My upper

gums are numb and some of my teeth have no feeling also. When I floss,

I notice it the most. I can't help you on the homeopathic front, but I

just made sure I got plenty of nutrients by eating(drinking) a well

put together blended meal everyday.

Check out my jaw surgery site:

http://www.firstdayback.com/jaw_surgery/ I updated everyday from the

day I got out of the hospital until Day 50. I posted a picture

everyday, so you can see how my face went from FAT to SKINNY. Let me

know what you think and I hope it helps. Good luck!

Glad to hear you're swollen too - not that I'm glad you're swollen,

just glad to know I'm not alone.

My hair stylist said, " I can tell you're miserable by your eyes. "

But, I wasn't miserable, just looking like a monkey with sunken eyes

(thanks to the swelling around my nose and upper lip).

I also have one swollen salivary gland (the one on the opposite side

resolved days ago) - looks like I have a small marble in my cheek;

very annoying.

Back to work for me tomorrow... better brush up on my witty explanations!
