Le Fort I ---anyone had upper moved back?

I've been reading some posts dealing with upper jaw surgery, and all

of them seem to talk about the jaw moving forward.

From what I understand, I will have my upper jaw moved up and back

with Le Fort in concert with a lower advancement. Has anybody had

this done? Wondering if it affects the widening of the nose in the

same way that an upper advancement does? I really haven't had a

chance to discuss with my surgeon the aesthetic effects of this

surgery, as it is still a year out and I doubt I will see him for

quite some time. If anyone has had experience with this type of

procedure, I'd love to hear feedback on the cosmetic aspect of it.

Thanks!

HI ,

Yup--had the upper moved up and back some and over some for midline

alignment.

I was going to have lower brought forward, but once he operated on

the models, he noticed that the natural swing of going up and back

would advance my jaw enough for a good bite, so instead we only did

genio...and I am happy about that-as luck would have it...bec it was

just a little less to heal from and with my life that's a plus.

So about your nose, yup changes a bit...but only you and maybe

someone really close will notice really...my nostrils went out a

smidgen...and he mentioned he straightened my nose a bit and tipped

the end of my nose up a little when he was in there, for

asthetics...I should mention when he went in he also found a deviated

septum and lots of sinus polyps-a surprise to us both...and he

corrected all of it. Working on the upper to lift 8/9 mm you are

really in the sinus areas-I have plates that are to remain in that go

along side the nose (which I still think is weird/funky---kind tweaks

me abit but if they stay and so does my allignment/bite...it's ALL

good). So almost a nose job too--not really it still has character,

but brething easier for sure!

So now I have NO gummy smile, no overbite, and with the genio a nice

chin and profile...that is what I notice most of all daily, but then

I look at pictures of pre-op days, and I am like wow, VERY gummy

indeed. I never cared to notice much-it was just me...and sure I had

the 'school picture' smile to a tee (showing only a little gum and a

smile still) but who didn't!

GO for it and depending on how severe your overbite is...maybe you

will not need the lower too-it's much too soon to be sure now.

Good luck! JO
