Guest guest
Stuffy and/or runny nose = gustatory rhinitis (no joking). Most likely because some surgeries ([horizontal] transection, vertical gastrectomy, DS, BPD, and, depending on how they are done, VBG and AGB) disturb at least one of the limbs of the vagus nerve in the stomach, leaving it bruised and tender. Then filling with food stimulates the nerve, resulting in mucous discharge elsewhere in [throughout?] the body--nasal passages included. --Steve

Guest guest
You have a plethera of information !!! I was wondering how both types of surgery could have the gustatory rhinitis? Thanks, jo Re: Stuffy Nose Syndrome!-- vaguely vagus > Stuffy and/or runny nose = gustatory rhinitis (no joking). > > Most likely because some surgeries ([horizontal] transection, > vertical gastrectomy, DS, BPD, and, depending on how they are done, > VBG and AGB) disturb at least one of the limbs of the vagus nerve in > the stomach, leaving it bruised and tender. Guest guest
Whatever traumatizes one or more branches of the vagus nerve will do it: transection, DS, etc. --Steve At 5:40 PM -0600 3/8/03, Jo Rahn wrote: >I was wondering how both types of >surgery could have the gustatory rhinitis?
