I know that when I am traveling, I will be snacking. Something about sitting on a plane or driving for long distances makes me want to much (probably boredom). Now, what I like to munch is chips. But lately, I've been doing the double whammy: I get my favorite books on tape to make the travel less boring, and I pack very large baggies of sliced bell peppers. If I can't make my own, I run to the market and buy those containers of washed and sliced veggies. Celery does not do it for me - but the other veggies do. Don't get me wrong - veggies are never going to be a substitute for chips in my book. But it helps. kate

Guest guest
Veges may not replace chips, but marinated ones are pretty darned good. I'm trying to have them on hand ready to go so I don't do another " I'm starving to death and cheezits are the only thing available right now " fit. Mushrooms in teriyaki are great. F/F italian dressing is a God send for green beans, asparagus, brussels sprouts. Trying something new is always a treat. Jicama with chili powder and lime juice. A fruit plate instead of just a piece of fruit. Little tricks to make me feel special and keep me interested in eating right. Cheap me has even actually started springing on strawberries, papaya and fresh pineapple instead of buying large quantities of whatever is on sale. What's on sale is good for the budget, but sometimes a little bit of something really good is more satisfying than a lot of the ordinary. Fresh strong cheeses are great too. No more gobs of yellow cheese. A few slivers of fresh pungent parmesan or a few crumbles of gorgonzola pack a lot more punch for far fewer calories. Peanut oil is great for stir frying a mix of veges. Try to get a little bit of different colors to make it look festive. Sesame oil is fabulous for sprinkling on chicken, fish, veges. Again, flavor dynamoes with fewer calories. (much better than butter!) Yumm yumm..I could go on and on. I'm truly enjoying learning to eat a new way. There's so much good out there I never tried before because I was loading up on junk all of the time. Now I just love fresh eating. It makes me feel clean.
