Guest guest
Just tell her you've been hearing and/or reading about it, and you wonder whether the surgery might be appropriate for your problems. Ask her whether she or a surgeon she knows might be able to give you some idea of the risks and benefits applicable to you. I don't know whether you're male or female, and don't know what your problems are. Is it a trouble in your bite, or is it the look of your chin that you're unhappy with? If you're male, you'll probably want to wait to do anything surgical until your growth is complete. If you're female, your growth may already be complete. If it's the look of the chin, yes, there's a surgical fixit. It's called genioplasty (some folks use chin implants as an alternative) and it is usually not covered by insurance. So you'll need to save up $5,000 or $6,000 unless you can get your parents to spring for it. I'd hope they won't be angry with you, but I think you may have some tall persuading to do. And your doc may be able to resolve your troubles with the braces. If it's truly an issue with your bite, the part about waiting may still hold true, and insurance may cover it. But start out by asking what it is that you need. Even if you do not need lower advancement, you may eventually get cosmetic help with your chin.
