Guest guest
I know I mentioned in my recipe " roasted & salted " hazelnuts (filberts); just want to emphasize that the taste is way different if you use " raw " unroasted nuts--not as good. I have on rare occasion seen bags of already ground hazelnuts in some grocery stores. This saves time, but like I said, the taste is not as good. The only roasted hazelnuts I've been able to find is a brand called " Mahames Baladna " and the bag says " roaster of nuts, coffee, and specialty spices. " Available at one local small chain grocery. It's $5.39 for a 1-lb bag, about 2-3x more expensive than plain unroasted. Baladna address is 13636 S. Western Ave, Blue Island, IL 60406. Did try roasting some on my own one time; it was a disaster and big waste of money and nuts. They sorta burned, and the paper husks were impossible to remove from most of the nuts. If anyone knows HOW to roast these things, let me know! Have tried this recipe with almonds, and the taste is nearly as good. I would imagine just about any of your favorite nuts would work.
