Guest guest
I had incredible luck with physical therapy. I went to a place that specialized in TMJ and my therapist did miofascial, distraction and some work inside my mouth. I was able to open 12mm when I started and I had no lateral movement at all. After 2 weeks of therapy I increased to 33 mm opening and by 4 weeks I had lateral movement. Of course I did not start therapy until after 6 weeks post-op once the bones had a reasonable amount of time to heal. Guest guest
Yes it worked wonders for me. I also used the therabite and still use it actually. I had a check-up with myOS yesterday and he is pleased. I do not have to see him for 2 months. I hope PT works as well for you if you choose that path. Keep us posted. Guest guest
Hi Bea, Like Marsha, I had therapy - in my case a cranial-sacral therapist who had worked on me since the second or third month of orthodontal work (she worked part-time in my ortho's office). She both worked in my mouth and on the cranial sutures as well as the neck and shoulders. I still see her and she does a bit of cranial-sac work each visit, but now that I'm way post-op (2 years now), we've moved on to more regular deep therapeutic massage. I also see a chiropractor once a week as part of a wellness program. I did not see the massage therapist for at least 6 weeks post-op because the bones were still healing, and the chiropractor until at least 8-10 weeks post-op. Ortho was 8 weeks post-op. Everyone wanted to be very cautious about it, which I agree with. > > If I decide to get outside help for helping me regain jaw mobility > and function, what should I consider?
