Guest guest
Lori and others, I can so relate to your desire to tell other obese people about WLS and what it can do for them. I now see so many obese people everywhere I go. I used to think I was the only very large person. This is what I do. I carry a before picture of myself. It is me at the beach in a wheelchair at my highest weight, looking quite sad, although I wasn't because I was happy to be that close to the ocean. I may sit down in a chair somewhere next to a large person, stand in a line, walk up steps, make a purchase, etc. Then I say something like " Wow I couldn't do this 2 years ago, it is so much easier now since I have lost over 200 lbs. " The next question is how did you do it. I show the picture and they can't believe it is me. This gives me the chance to let them know there is hope for them. They may start researching it after that. I give my phone number if they want to talk more. Many have had WLS because of our encounter. Can I save them all? A few at a time. Like the starfish story, it mattered to the one I helped. I do alot of talking wherever I go. Family says there she is talking about WLS again. It is amazing how many others listen and then tell a loved one. God gave me this wonderful tool to save my life. I have to share to help others. I am about to turn 60 yrs old. Without this surgery, I may not have been able to celebrate my 60th birthday. I know it would not be as happy. Sheila
