Guest guest
In response to the comments about sneezing or nose running while eating. I don't know if I will say it just right, especially in Dr terms, but I will try. I asked my son, (the gastroenterologist) why this happens. The vagas nerve controls digestion. When we irritate the stomach with food too warm, too big of a bite, too much at a time, etc. it triggers that nerve to secrete the mucous that aids in digestion. The mucous is throughout our bodies so it starts the process all over the body. It all made since to me. I hope I said it right. Guest guest
Right. And, if the vagus nerve had been sensitized as a result of gastric surgery, it's that much easier to " trigger " it. --Steve At 9:44 AM -0500 3/10/03, sabaroni@... wrote: >When we irritate the stomach with food >too warm, too big of a bite, too much at a time, etc. it triggers that >nerve to secrete the mucous that aids in digestion. Guest guest
This MUST be it...as the sneezing happens to me just when I drink water. Room temperature water! I haven't overeaten, or had too much water at one time...just happens when I stimulate that nerve, I guess. It does make some sort of odd sense. Regards~ Jacque Distal RNY, 5/30/00 Drs.
