Palate widening: what techniques exist??

Hi there! I'm not entirely new to this site - have posted a few

times before but not recently. I'm English but I live in France and

am having upper, lower and genioplasty on 1 February. I saw my

orthodontist last Friday and she made it sound like I'm having my

palate widened too but she didn't explain. She put some metal rings

around my upper molars, made a mould of my upper jaw, then took the

metal rings off. I'm going back in 10 days for, as far as I

understood, to have these ring things fitted. The moulds are being

sent away for whatever it is I'm having put in my mouth to be made.

Does anyone have any ideas what this is?? I've only heard of SARPE.

From what I gather, the bit of apparatus that is getting made for me

will be fitted during my jaw surgery. If it's SARPE, it sounds like

a hell of a lot to go through all in one go, no? (The surgeon's also

taking my lower wisdom teeth out!).

Any views would be much appreciated!
