Guest guest
greg, typical is overnight but some depending on conditions/complications may stay longer. I stayed overnight until afternoon for upper/lower/genio and went home by 6pm same day for maxilla. I was ready both times and had no issues that would force me to stay. insurance usually only covers 1 night stay so that's when most people go. at 1000 a night i'm sure they would love to keep you longer. you may be scheduled for 3 days but go home when you stabalize hopefully after 1 day. eric > > Hi All - > > I've just found out I need 3 days in hospital after surgery for lower > + genio only - is this normal? > > I was kinda hoping for a same day and out scenario like some have you > experienced > > Thanks > > Greg

Guest guest
I think every doctor is different. My doctor told me 1 to 3 days depending on how things go. He also told me I may go to ICU or I may go to a surgery recovery room depending on how thing go also. I think it's better to be cautious. > > Hi All - > > I've just found out I need 3 days in hospital after surgery for lower > + genio only - is this normal? > > I was kinda hoping for a same day and out scenario like some have you > experienced > > Thanks > > Greg

Guest guest
This one seems to depend at least in part on where you are. In the UK, for instance, some surgeons keep their patients up to a week. How did you find this out? I ask because my surgeon requested approval for 5 days in hospital from the insurance company, just in case, but I actually went in in the middle of the night monday/tuesday, had surgery tuesday a.m., and left the hospital wednesday p.m. I think it depends, too, on what you're having done, the difficulty and complexity -- and what your surgeon's experience has been with how these things work out. My own view, should you want it, is that if there's any doubt, better to be in the hospital, where help is at hand, than have to go back, which might include a trip to an emergency room where the folks are less familiar with these proceedings.
