I think the carb rule varies but it could average from as little as 15

to as much as 50 a day. Basically you really have to learn the basics of

carb do's and don't's when making the changes. Since there are simple

carbs and complex carbs, you should know that the complex carbs are the

ones you do want to consume, especially when you are at a plateau and

want to shake things up a bit to get things moving again. Whole wheat

and grains are great and it's loaded with fiber. You don't have to count

the fiber carbs which makes it much better even. The fruits are good but

you want to avoid too much of the really sweet fruits like grapes and

pineapple, ripe bananas, etc. 1/2 of a banana is always good in a shake

to add sweet to it. I love strawberries with my shakes also as a late

afternoon snack.

Sorry about the ramble, but I'm just up to my eyeballs with information

and love to share when I think it might help someone. To answer your

question directly, as much as it varies in carb counts, I think most

folks stay around 25 and even less. I don't like to count, I just

consentrate on good eating habits. No white rice, white bread, flour,

sugar, etc.

It's funny, today, my husband and I are organizing our pantry again...

there is an entire area loaded with just carbo's. It's all the pasta and

boxed foods mostly shoved back in the corner. It will slowly be

distributed to the local food bank very soon. It's amazing how much

crap we can find in our pantries.

Take care,

Carbs

Happy New Year everyone! Does anyone know how many carbs we are

supposed to consume in a day? Also, what's the thing with effective

carbs, net carbs, etc.?

I'm sure the # of carbs that we're to consume will vary for each of us. I

questioned the doctor about this, and she said to get the protein & water

in, and then don't worry about the carbs for now. The sample diet I have

for the first 6 weeks was protein, fruits and veggies.

You know what, I'm not much of a cereal eater, but after reading the

nutrition information on a box of grapenuts cereal, I've learned that

it's alot of carbs in a 4 oz. serving, but it also has 10 grams of

protien and 8 grams of fiber, so I would say that in small amounts, say

2 oz. I'd put it in the good carb list. I didn't see the sugar grams,

but if it had more then 3 I'd forget it.

It's like taking oatmeal, I'll take that in as a good carb cus it's a

whole grain. That's how I think about it...

By the way, You look incredible!!!
