Hello,

I am scheduled for orthognathic surgery on Nov. 8th. I have some

concerns about what to expect and was hoping some of the members of

this group could advise. I am having lower advancement of about 4mm.

I would like to know how long the recovery for this may be and

approximately how long I may need to take off work. Also how long

before I can eat solid food for example steak!! Thanks

Dan

Hi Dan,

As you'll see from reading this forum, each person's

results/recoveries will vary widely. That said:

I had my lower jaw advanced 8-9mm on August 24th. At 5 weeks this

week, I don't think I could manage steak just yet, but I'm getting closer.

I was only off work for one week, and I was only on the strict liquid

diet that first week as well, from there I was on a strict no-chew for

3 weeks. At week 4 I was given the go ahead to chew soft foods. I'd

like to think of a *good* steak as soft food, but I really don't think

I could handle it just yet so I'm not risking it.

Hope this helps!

Your Dr would be best to tell you about work, at least 2 wks-as much

as 6wks...depends on you!

and as to steak, unless you mean in the blender, they will want you

to wait 8-10 wks until you are totally healed...that's like the last

one on the list!

Sorry, but eat hardy now and think chicken ;)
