I had upper/lower/genio on 10/5, and while I didn't have anything

placed in my cheeks, I did have a screw put through the bridge of my

nose in between my eyes. It served as a static reference point from

which the surgery was done.

The mark has faded considerably, but my nose is just a tad sore from

the screw. It should disappear completely within the coming weeks.

It's your surgeons preference. My surgeon said he was going to but

ended up not cuz he said he was able to get the screws in from the

inside. i think it has something to do with the location of the nerve.

I had my surgery on October 7th and the surgeons made an incision on

both sides of cheeks to place screws in my lower jaw. I can't even

see a mark on my right cheeck but the stitching is visible on my

left cheek. They also places a metal rod type thing on my nose in

between my eyes but that marks gone as well. Hope that helps.

i had lower jaw advancement a several months ago and there we no

incisions made on the outside of my cheeks... everything was done on

the inside...

most, if not all, procedures are done on the inside of the mouth...

I am 3 1/2 months post op and of the 3 marks I can still see the one

on my lower right cheek, but the other 2 are gone and I expect the

3rd to fade with time.

Hey there,

I am having surgery on 11.11.04 and as per my oral surgeon, two

incisions will be made on the lower check/jaw/neckline...something

about not being able to fit a screwdriver all the way back in my

mouth :(

Hope this helps!

This is honestly not anything to worry about.

I had lower advancement in June 2002.

Two tiny " stab " wounds, one down low on each cheek. Closed by 3 tiny

stitches each. Stitches came out at first post op appointment. No

scars, no significant wounds. In short, nothing at all. All other

incisions were inside my mouth. A few folks also get a tiny cut of

some sort near the bridge of the nose, or on the forehead, which has

to do with a positioning and measuring apparatus my surgeon

apparently does not use.

The reason for the ones on the cheeks is that the docs can't get the

exact angle they need for the screws, unless they go through the

cheek tissue. They make a tiny cut, insert a tiny trochar and drill

the little holes for the screws. Which they then insert through the

trochar.

Not all docs do this in all operations, but mine did, and honestly,

neither on me nor on other patients I know did it have any problems

at all.
