Guest guest
I am just 1 week post op for upper surgery, and am wired shut, as I imagine you possibly are also. The swelling is still awful, but it did peak at 3 days post op and began to go down from there. I am still quite swollen but it is down quite a ways from that third day, at least that's what my family tells me. I frightened my one of my dd's when I came home with my appearance. I have used a humidifier to deal with the dryness of my nose, to get it to drain out what's up there. I know it sounds gross, but my nose feels so full, and I can't blow it. I haven't been able to rinse out my mouth yet, but can brush my teeth on the outside. I go back to the OS tomorrow for a followup. The numbness can be annoying, but sometimes I feel what seems like either lightning or little bugs running across my face as the sensations are starting to come back. I think right now I welcome the numbness so I don't have to feel the pain. I'm it will hurt more when that wears off. I can finally close my lips today! Good luck to you and Congrats on being on the other side with us! It will get better and better each day. Take care, Lyn > Ok, Thursday I had my surgery, I upper and lower jaw surgery....plus > the 3 piece upper to widen my palate. So I'm now into my 3rd day > post-op. Guest guest
Congrats! It will take some time to be able to use a straw or swoosh around mouth wash...but the swelling should mostly get better everyday, but keep in mind it can increase for a day or 2 sometimes too...as to the numbness...you should be able to move your lips at least a little soon, to hug a straw or sip a cup etc...but the actual face numbness can last up to a yr. Fear not, I am 7 wks post-op and mine started coming back early and was tickly and pinchy during week 2...almost all back now and where it's still a little " asleep " I can use it like normal and only I REALLY KNOW the difference. Hang in there, days 3-5 are usually the hardest ---sounds like you're a champ and you have the support you need...so while you may have moments (as we all did/do) you should be O.K!
