Guest guest
Hi Miche, Call your surgeon and ask for tylenol 3 or whatever they recommend for the pain. I had both lower wisdoms removed about 8 years ago - one was exploded and easy to retrieve, the other was impacted and the surgeon had to dig into the bone to extract it. He told me to expect numbness from that. This kind of numbness can go away quickly or it can linger for quite a long time. My orthognathic surgeon said 5-7 years for full recovery (which can mean living with very mild numbness and slow change). I can tell you that the numbness from my wisdom tooth surgery did recede, but there was also improvement after 5-6 years as well. I'm in no way suggesting that it will take that long for yours to recede, of course. Everyone is different, and it also depends on how the surgeon worked around the nerve. If you're contemplating orthognathic surgery, keep in mind that most patients experience a LOT of numbness (which keeps any pain at bay). I had upper/lower/genio 2 years ago, and my whole face was numb from behind my eyeballs to below my chin. Knowing that this is going to happen and that this extent of numbness will not be permanent definitely helps you to cope with it. It's a pity that your surgeon didn't warn you about this possibility, but then, a lot of surgeons don't. Happy healing, > Hi - I'm really worried - I had a lower molar extracted a few days > ago and I'm experiencing lots of pain and numbness in my chin and > lower lip - three days after my extraction. Guest guest
ITs okay! its totally normal and rare if it does not happen! I had some numbness in the same place you are describing after some teeth extractions and implants, its simply from the nerves being bumped around. most the time--if the surgeon didn't totally not pay attention to the nerves--the heal within a few months. After my jaw surgery right under my eyes to my chin was numb,. it hurt a lot when one of the majior nerves in my cheek area started to wake up. I was appreciatve of the numbness because it means less pain, although there was still a lot of pain so I couldn't imagine it without the numbeness. Anyway it will just take some time for the nerves to heal and then you will be fine. on rare occasions it can be permanent and they can do surgery to help allievate it. > > Hi - I'm really worried - I had a lower molar extracted a few days > > ago and I'm experiencing lots of pain and numbness in my chin and > > lower lip - three days after my extraction.
