Guest guest
Ceramic braces are much less visible than metal, however they are not invisible and are a bit bigger than metal. They are also not as good as metal for the job that they have to do. There is a greater possibility of ceramic brackets breaking both during surgey and leading up to it whoch would prolong the time in braces. They are also much more expensive. I live in England, so for me the surgery and braces will be on NHS. I asked about ceramic braces and was told that i would have to pay for everything privately including surgery. Now i have metal braces (nhs) and they are nowhere near as bad as i had thought. This is also my second time in braces and i have had them for about a month now. Most people dont notice them until i tell them. Ive begun to actually quite like them. I have heard of surgically moving the teeth, but i suppose that this is reserved for severe cases in which braces are not sufficient to move the teeth. Guest guest
If your ortho suggested that you'll need braces before you go ahead with the surgery, then there's probably no way around it. I am also considering have surgery and my ortho told me that if I did not get braces beforehand, my bite would not be lined up correctly. Thus, the surgery would be a waste of time and money. There are just certain preparations that cannot be taken care of any other way, unfortunately. If you look around this board though, you'll see that most people feel that getting braces was worth it in the long run.

Guest guest
I was told the same thing. my bite is fine now so if i want to correct the 5mm overjet braces are needed. after all the surgery is to align the jaws and if the bite is good now it won't be after surgery. > Hi, > I am considering orthognathic surgery after being told by my > orthodontist that I need it, however I don't really like the idea of > having to get braces again.
